- Model School Wellness Policies
- 1) In the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization
Act of 2004, the U.S. Congress established a new requirement that
all school districts with a federally-funded school meals program
develop and implement wellness policies that address nutrition
and physical activity by the start of the 2006-2007 school year
[Section
204]. In response to requests for guidance on developing such
policies, the National Alliance for Nutrition and Activity (NANA, www.nanacoalition.org)
convened a work group of more than 50 health, physical activity,
nutrition, and education professionals from a variety of national
and state organizations to develop a set of model
policies for local school districts.

of School Boards has documents that
are more specific and useful to Iowa teachers. They have: IASB
Policy Primer Sample Wellness Policy and a School Wellness Policy

Grants
- IAHPERD Grants; IAHPERD’s mission is to provide leadership
and support for the enhancement of movement, leisure and health related
programs. The
2005 IAHPERD Strategic Plan calls for; Develop and implement
professional programs to promote healthy active lifestyles provided
through the allied professions. Therefore, IAHPERD announces
the availability of mini-grants up to $1500 each. Grants for
greater than $1500 may be considered by the committee with proper
documentation. Applicants may request funding for equipment,
research projects, workshops, and special projects.
