The TEACHER Monument

We firmly believe with all the value Iowa places in education, it would be appropriate to establish a monument to teachers for the state of Iowa. This past January the Capitol Planning Commission agreed and thus on May 6, 2012 at 12:00 (noon) we will be dedicating a new memorial on the Iowa State Capitol grounds, in DesMoines.

This memorial will feature one word in bold relief…TEACHER. For us it will be a memorial to Steve France and all others educators that make a difference. (more)

Let’s Move in School

AHPERD’s Let’s Move in School is a public awareness and action initiative targeted at physical education teachers, parents, principals, superintendents, and school boards with the goal of ensuring that every school provides a comprehensive school physical activity program (CSPAP) – with quality physical education as the foundation –so that youth will develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime. Participate in Let’s Move in School During National Physical Education and Sport Week (May 1-7, 2011) and get involved in other supporting actions. Find out more at www.LetsMoveinSchool.org

IAHPERD Mission Statement:

Provide leadership and support for the enhancement of movement, leisure and health related programs central to healthy, active lifestyles and lifelong learning.

IAHPERD's Goal

All students in grades K-12 will receive daily, quality health and physical education taught by certified / licensed / highly qualified health and physical education teachers, in class size and time periods equivalent to other core subjects.
