The Iowa Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) has maintained a commitment to ensuring it's membership also displays excellence in our fields. This sub-set of the IAHPERD web site is devoted to providing professionals in the state with the best ideas in the fields which IAHPERD represents. We will start with the development of our best ideas in physical education but will continue to develop more resources when members step forward to sharing the best they have to offer.
The State of Iowa has jurisdiction for the oversight of all curriculum in the public and private schools of Iowa. In Iowa the legislation that directs curriculum in physical education and health is commonly know as Chapter 12. The guidelines that must be adhered to for curriculum development affect kindergarten to grade 12.
In the fall of 2003 IAHPERD published an article in it's Journal to help explain what is contained in Chapter 12. At the time of the writing of the The Iowa Administrative Code a committee also produced a support document (1.3 MB in .pdf format) that helps explain the background of Chapter 12.
